Wiring Aac Disconnect
Wiring your disconnect switch will vary slightly from one type of switch to another.
Wiring aac disconnect. Depending on whether you have a 110v or 220v circuit you will have either 3 or 4 wires. If the current draw is 48 amps you will need a disconnect rated for 60 amps. Wiring a disconnect box to mini split disconnect boxes are simple to wire up with power coming in and going out. The hot wires each carry 120 volts and are different phases.
How to wire a disconnect. Pull the wire through the conduit while leaving enough on each end to make the connections. Cut enough conduit to reach from the disconnect box to the wiring panel on the air conditioning condensing unit. The electrical wiring to the disconnect is fed from the load side or outgoing side of the electric meter.
The wire gauge needed will be in the instructions with common sizes for mini split units being 10 12 gauge. With the breaker turned off the wires can be disconnected and the cable removed from the e lectrical compartment of the. The side of the meter that receives incoming power from the utility service lines is called the line side. Install the wires to the condensing unit.
While most units will be 10 12 gauge be sure to read the specifications to get the correct size wire. If the current draw is 28 amps you will need a disconnect rated for 30 amps. Wiring an a c unit involves installing a double pole 240 volt circuit breaker in the main service panel running a 240 volt cable to the a c s location installing a safety disconnect switch there and then running weatherproof flex from the switch to the a c s terminal box. One will ground a bare copper or green wire one will be neutral a white wire and one or two will be hot wires black or a combination of black and red.
The line side is the cable supplying voltage from your electrical panel. If the disconnect is added to an existing ac unit it should be within reach of the already existing cable so only a short cable is needed to bridge the switch to the ac unit. There are two hot wires and a neutral wire. Make sure you use the proper size disconnect.
